« Magnetometry and Gradient Magnetometry using Atom Interferometers »
Atom interferometers hold the promise of unprecedented precision and indeed, atom interferometers can be found at the heart of state-of-the-art gyroscopes, gravimeters, gravity gradiometers, and clocks. In this talk, I will discuss the possibility of using atom interferometers to measure magnetic fields and magnetic field gradients. Raman transitions are the work horse of atom optical elements, such as beam splitters and mirrors. I will first discuss the physics of Raman transitions in arbitrarily oriented magnetic fields. Next, I will discuss Ramsey-type interference measurements in both the time domain and the frequency domain. Finally, I will show some very preliminary results of an interferometer measuring magnetic field and an interferometer measuring magnetic field gradients
